Thanks for Successful Blood Drive

The WORLD welcomes Letters to the Editor concerning public issues. Letters should be 400 words or less and may be subject to editing due to space constraints. Submissions should also contain the name of the author and a contact telephone number for verification. For letters of thanks, contact our advertising department at 479-2582; non-profit rates are available.

Editor:

My Co-coordinator, Sharon Lunde, and I would like to thank everyone who made the recent blood drive a success. We collected 190 productive units of blood, had 10 new donors and 43 donors signed up to be part of the International bone marrow registry. Miles Supply was our sponsor and was a tremendous help the day of the drive.

We would also like to thank Charter Communications, The Times Argus and The WORLD, Potvin Real Estate and all the radio stations that advertise the drive. As usual, our volunteers did a great job with the many aspects of the drive. We would be remiss if we did not thank Suzanne LeCours and her family for many years of postering the downtown area. We would also like to thank the Woodridge cookie bakers and Dunkin Donuts for their generous donations. The Staff at The Elks Club was helpful as usual.

Sharon and I have been Co-Coordinators of the Barre Blood Drive for nine years. It has been a wonderful experience but we are ready to pass the torch. Anyone who is interested in helping in any way should call Amy Pudvar Pecor at 1-800-843-3500 Ext. 3237. We have found some new volunteers to take over important pieces of the drive but need more.

A recent letter to the Editor addressed the limited hours of the drive and suggested we go past 5 PM so people who cannot leave their jobs during work hours could donate. The writer has a valid point and we will see what we can do. The hours for the Montpelier blood drive will be 12-6 beginning in June. The Red Cross Blood Center in Burlington is open from 9-6 Monday through Friday and 7:30-10:00 on Saturday. The times and places for blood drives for the next two months are available at www.newenglandblood.org.

As always our greatest thanks go to our generous donors who take time from their busy lives to give the gift of life. We look forward to seeing you at each drive and will miss you. The need for blood is great and ongoing. The posters help, the banner helps, and the postcards that are sent to the donors help. If every blood donor brought a friend to our next drive, Sharon and I would love it. The next drive is Monday, May 12th from 11-5 at the Barre Lodge of Elks. Bond Auto is our sponsor. Hope to see you there.

Judy A. Cookson

Co-Coordinator, Barre Blood Drive
