The Knitting Studio Has New Home and Owners
(by Week of September 17, 2008 - September 17, 2008)

“This Place Rocks!”The Knitting Studio Has New Home and Owners
New visitors to The Knitting Studio now located at 97 State Street are going to discover this is not your average, quaint little quiet supply store.
On the contrary, you will probably feel the energy and hear the giggling of the excited new owners and their customers when you enter their colorful bright new surroundings.
‘This Place Rocks!’ says Lee Youngman who recently took over The Knitting Studio with Brigette Oesterle and Leslie Roth, adding “we never stop playing here and when we’re not here we call each other all the time with more ideas.”
Previously The Knitting Studio was located at 7 Main Street upstairs from the Citizens Bank. It was originally started by Scottie Harrison in 2003 and from 2005 expertly operated by Jean Kerner until being purchased by Youngman, Oesterle and Roth this past July.
“We all had a passion for this place and were associated with it for some time,” explains Youngman, who previously was a guru in the Central Vermont home mortgage field.
Oesterle, is considered a “rock star of fiber arts” spinning and embellishing colors for dolls and hundreds of other apparel products. Roth, who previously did mediation and conflict management and is the mother of two very young children, is a “fabulous knitter.”
Besides offering extensive supplies and materials including Fair Trade yarn, The Knitting Studio also features Vermont organic yarns and fibers, unspun and felted wool. There are a limited amount of garments for sale, too.
Classes which are starting soon will feature very skilled instructors. They include, Knit you first sweater, Beginning Lace, Learn to Knit, Easy Two-color Socks, Child’s Einstein Coat, Two at a time Toe up Socks, Lefty Learn to Knit, Moebius ‘Sampler’, First Hat, Holiday Afghan, Child’s Top Down Sweater, Parent and Child Learn to Knit, Entrelac Pillow, Fair Isle Sweater, Felted Wine Cozy, Traditional multicolor and Textured Christmas Sock, Double Cuff Mittens, Kids Felted Balls, Felted Vessel Workshop and Kids Needle Felted Ornaments. They are also hoping to start a men’s knitting group.
The new location at 97 State Street offers 1100 s.f. (only 800 s.f. at previous location) is on the first floor and at a much more convenient location for downtown traffic.
They are busily preparing for the Sept. 26 Montpelier Artwalk and will feature Robin Clements. Picture frames and switch plates, etc. Also the Nov. 7 and 8 Shop Hop with three other yarn/knitting businesses in Barre, Plainfield and Bradford.
The Knitting Studio is open Mon-Fri 10-5:30 and Sat-Sun 10-4. Call them at 802-229-2444. Or, better yet, stop in and join the fun – you’ll be hooked!
