Time to Provide Health Care Access to All
Editor:
There have been many years of my life that I have lived without health insurance, and lived with a daily fear of injury or sickness financially ruining me. Even worse is when you're uninsured and you have to make decisions between taking care of a serious health need and being able to pay your bills or buy groceries.
I believe that the state of Vermont is truly exciting time that we have the opportunity to adopt a health care system that will meet all our needs, and provide access to all. I believe that our legislature and our governor will make the right decision this year and pass true health care reform-- reform that will make health care a human right for all.
While the insurance companies will try to scare us that this will be too expensive, we must ask ourselves what are our true costs of our current system? How many farmers risk losing their farms, small businesses have to close their doors because they get sick or injured? How many of us have to delay important preventative care because we can't afford to go to the doctor and end up in the emergency room, costing thousands more? These are the true costs of our system.
We need a healthcare system that meets the needs of people, not big corporations. We need to all let our legislators know that healthcare is a human right.
