MCALLAN, RUTH MARCELLA VICTORIA POSKUS, 86, of Williamstown, died on September 15 at Gifford Medical Center in Randolph. Her parents, James Poskus and Marcelia Sakalauskiute, from Lithuania, settled in Worcester, Mass. Ruth was born on Sept. 16, 1923. After graduation from David Hale Fanning Trade School For Girls, she worked at many jobs, including sewing flight suits for WW II airmen and as a key punch operator for Reed-Prentice Company. After meeting at a dance, she married James Harold McAllan, who died in 2006. They had one child. In 1958, the family moved to Springfield, Mass., where she continued to work in the offices of Breck Shampoo, city hall, and IBM, until the 1970s. She moved to The Gardens in Williamstown in 2008, to be close to her family. She also lived briefly at Mayo Nursing Home in Northfield. Her interests included candlepin bowling, jigsaw puzzles, ceramics, bingo, card playing, dancing swing and the polka, and her cats. She and her husband took trips across the country to visit family and enjoyed riding around Springfield in their restored 1929 Chevy. She was also active in the Forest Park Lawn Bowling Club and Senior Center. She had a generous heart and contributed to animal rescue causes and Holy Name Church. She is survived by her daughter, Christine Terry of Montpelier, wife of Paul L. Terry (deceased); two grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; and many nieces and nephews. She is the last survivor of a close family of two brothers and three sisters.
