Racine is the Right Candidate for Governor
Editor:
Doug Racine is the candidate best suited to lead Vermont to economic prosperity. Vermont needs a governor who can harness the twin imperatives of economic opportunity and economic justice. To truly take advantage of a Democrat-led economic recovery, we need a leader who will ensure that no Vermonter is left behind.
Doug Racine recognizes that support for the private sector and public investment are not mutually exclusive propositions. The slash and burn approach to the budget demonstrated by the Douglas Administration has not worked. The Douglas-Dubie Administration has relied almost exclusively on more layoffs and budget cuts, yet the economy hasn't turned around. In fact, the economy is worse for their efforts. Douglas and Dubie have ushered in an era of permanent budget crisis. The Douglas Administration failed to deliver the jobs it promised and the economy tanked. Brian Dubie promises more of the same. Doug Racine will take a balanced approach that focuses on helping businesses and working Vermonters.
I'm also supporting Racine because he can win: Racine is consistently a top vote-getter in populous Chittenden County, and he's held statewide office. And, he is the only candidate to have beaten Brian Dubie in a head to head match-up (Racine beat Dubie in the 2000 election for Lt. Governor by 53-41 percent). And, Racine has the support of the three largest unions in the state, and the largest environmental member organization. In November, Racine will deliver.
Vermonters want solutions, not more of the same. Doug Racine is the right candidate for the job, and he can win. Join me in voting for Doug Racine for Governor on August 24th.
