You can help plant a new orchard in Montpelier! If you have access to a computer and the internet, you can help. This new orchard could spring up around the Hubbard Park Tower.
The Fruit Tree Planting Foundation out of Mill Valley, CA and Edy?s Fruit Bars are offering orchards to communities who can get their members to vote for an orchard in their community. The communities with the most votes win.
This program has been going on since April 2010 and ends in August. Each month the five top vote getting communities are awarded an orchard.
Montpelier has been poking along and could really use your help! As of today, we have 951 votes. A few more get added each day. But we?re not going to get there at this rate. The current leader has 5,811 votes. In May, Waitsfield won with more than 10,000 votes! We still have all of August to get there with your help! So visit www.communitiestakeroot.com/Plant/Index.
The Montpelier Parks Department applied to participate in this program with support from Transition Town/APPLE Corps (Association for the Planting of Public Edible Landscapes for Everyone) and The Montpelier Tree Board.
