Town Meeting Day Comments

Town Meeting Day Comments

  Sen. Bill Doyle

  CELL PHONES AND TEXTING

“Drivers should be prohibited from using handheld cell phones.” - Waitsfield

“I really hope the legislature passes the law prohibiting cell phones and texting while driving.” - Berlin

“Unless laws passed on cell phone use and texting have stiff penalties, it will be useless.” - East Montpelier

“Cell phone restrictions should be for all, not just teenage drivers.” - Barre City

“Hands free should be allowed.” - Duxbury

  LEGISLATURE

“I believe that the legislature pays too much attention and time on issues that should be taken care of in a timely and budget-conscious way.” - Moretown

“Make state legislators attend local school board meetings at budget time.” - Cabot

  STIMULUS

“The government is creating jobs that are temporary, such as fixing roads and general construction. If they really want to create jobs that are sustainable, they should invest in energy initiatives.” - Barre City

  AFFORDABILITY

“It’s becoming impossible for middle class families to afford living in Vermont.” - Barre

“Affordable, yes, if one knows how to live well but frugally.” - Fayston

  ECONOMY

“How are we going to become competitive as a state? How are we going to attract business? How are we going to get our young people to stay after they graduate? The affordable living areas of the state tend not to have broadband.” - East Montpelier

  IDLING

“This is Vermont, not Florida, where winter time temperatures are cold. Vehicles need to be warmed up properly. Not everyone has a heated garage.” - Northfield

  ORGAN DONOR

“Please establish a separate organ donor register within the state of Vermont. As of February, there are 110 Vermonters on the waiting list.” - Northfield

  PRISON POPULATION

“A reduction of the prison population and moving money saved toward prevention and public assistance programs is a sensible and intelligent idea.” - Cabot

  SENIOR CITIZENS

“Don’t cut services to senior citizens in their homes, otherwise the state will end up having to pay for their care in a nursing home.” - Barre City

  HOUSING

“Too big disparity between housing cost and pay scale.” - Duxbury
