PERANTONI, EDO
PERANTONI, EDO, passed away peacefully on January 23 at Berlin Health and Rehabilitation Center, where he had resided since April of 2008. He was born in Barre on Aug. 26, 1917, to Attilio and Giovannina (Tedeschi) Perantoni. Edo attended Barre City schools, graduating from Spaulding High School in 1935. After high school, he was employed by Chioldi Granite Company. In 1941, he was drafted into the army and is a veteran of World War II. On Sept. 19, 1941, prior to shipping overseas, he married Agnes Lillian Tassie in Fort Eustis, Va. He was discharged from the military in 1945, at the rank of staff sergeant. Upon return to civilian life, he became a partner in Chioldi Granite Company. In later years, Edo, with his wife Agnes, owned and operated a sporting goods store in Barre. After leaving the retail business, he worked for Valz Granite Company. Upon retirement from the granite industry, he was employed as custodian for Barre Town Recreation Department, a position he held for 13 years, retiring in 2001. He was instrumental in the development of the Barre Town Recreation Fields and took great pride in the maintenance of the fields. Edo was not one to sit idle if sports were involved. So when the ball fields closed for the season, he would go to the BOR to help keep the hockey teams skating all winter. Edo and his wife lived in Barre all of their married life. Edo was very active in Barre youth sports and coached Little League baseball for many years. He always enjoyed watching his grandchildren and their teammates play sports of all kinds. In his spare time, he enjoyed building things in his woodworking shop. He was a member of the Mutuo Italian Club and a lifetime member of the Kiwanis Club. Edo is survived by his wife, Agnes, his daughter Judy Rivard and husband, Bob; his son Jerry and wife, Ginny, all of Barre. In addition to his parents, he is predeceased by a son, Thomas Edward, sister Eda Burnett and brother Olvero Perantoni. Edo is also survived by six grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; as well as four step-great-grandchildren
