PITTS, HELEN RUTH, 80


PITTS, HELEN RUTH, 80, a longtime resident of the Waterbury area, passed away at Rowan Court Nursing Home in Barre on January 13.  Born in Waterbury on Aug. 4, 1929, she was the daughter of the late Guy and C. Nancy (Fielder) Brickey. Helen married Wallace M. Pitts, who predeceased her. Helen attended schools in Waterbury and then as a young woman she went to work as an operator for the former New England Telephone Co. in Montpelier. She later took a position as a nurse's aide at the Vermont State Hospital in Waterbury and retired as a supervisor following 32 years of service. In her leisure time, Helen enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles, shopping trips, soap operas, and long road trips that ended with a delicious creemee. Helen is survived by her sons, Bruce Pitts and wife, Elaine, of Plattsburgh N.Y., and Michael Pitts and wife, Sandra Griffin, of Duxbury; three grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; a sister, Marion Witham and her husband, Dean, of Berlin; three brothers, Ronald Brickey and his wife, Doris, of Northfield, Jack Brickey and his wife, Dottie, of Lakeland, Fla., and Edward Brickey and his wife, Bobbie, of Lakeland, Fla.; as well as nieces, nephews and extended family.
