CLEMENT, HERMA, 86


CLEMENT, HERMA, 86, formerly of East Orange, died January 19 at Rowan Court Health and Rehabilitation Center in Barre. Born Nov. 23, 1923, she was the daughter of Harold and Ada (Welch) Richardson. She attended the one-room schoolhouse in East Orange and later graduated from Bradford Academy. She first attended teachers training but preferred nursing; she went on to become a registered nurse after training at Heaton Hospital in Montpelier, later working for both Heaton and Barre City Hospitals. In September of 1958, she married Roland Clement in East Orange where they lived all their married life. He died in 1989. In her youth she helped her father at the family's General Store and enjoyed helping her mother cook hot meals for school children. Cooking, knitting, sewing, reading and spending time with family and friends were special times for her. She enjoyed traveling however she usually returned home talking more about the people she met then the sights she saw. Herma attended the East Orange Church and was a member of the Riverside Grange #455 for over 70 years. Survivors include her daughter, Paula Clement and her partner, Michele Boyer, of East Orange; her brother Kermit Richardson and wife Margaret of Orange; several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her husband, Roland, and her twin sister Helen Largin.
