VIENS, ROBERT J.
VIENS, ROBERT J., 55, of South Burlington went home to be with the Lord unexpectedly on November 25, at his residence. He was born in Montpelier on Aug. 12, 1954, the son of Joseph and Roberta (Hatch) Viens. He lived with his parents in a military household with his five siblings. When he was 18, he joined the U. S. Army. While stationed in Germany he met his wife, Jutta. They were married on Oct. 13, 1978, in Bad Nauheim. In 1983 they had a daughter, Jennifer, and in 1985 a son, Jeffrey. In 1993, Robert retired from the military and their family settled in South Burlington, where they have resided ever since. Robert was a strong, independent, and devoted individual. He devoted 20 years of his life to the military and retired with an honorable discharge with the rank of master sergeant. After retirement, he immediately began working for Guardsmark, a security company. Through this job he obtained his position at IBM, where he has been employed ever since. At IBM, Robert was a member of the manufacturing team. He was indispensable. Robert is survived by his wife, Jutta, his children, Jennifer and Jeffrey, his granddaughter, Annie, his mother, Roberta, his siblings, Catherine, Anne, Joseph, Arthur, and Paul, and many nieces, nephews, and in-laws. He is also survived by many good friends, especially his co-bowlers of the Winooski Knights of Columbus and Spare Time and his good friends at the Vermont Lake Monsters games, the "Third Base Association." Robert was a devoted husband and father. He would have given anything for his family and did.
