HOWE, SHIRLEY A., 89
HOWE, SHIRLEY A., 89, died July 15 at Gifford Medical Center in Randolph. She was born Jan. 16, 1920, in Bethel, the daughter of Frank Raymond and Ruth Alice (Putnam) Ainsworth. Shirley attended school in Rochester and graduated from Rochester High School in 1937. She was married to John A. Howe of Tunbridge, Jan. 4, 1939. They lived their entire married lives in Tunbridge where she and John owned and operated a successful dairy farm. John died Sept. 24, 1995. Shirley resided at the Menig Nursing Facility in Randoph for the past five years. Shirley was a kind and caring person who not only loved and cared for her family but also nourished and nurtured the entire community. She was an active member of her church, serving for many years as a member of the South Tunbridge and Tunbridge Ladies Aid and as the Sunday School Superintendent of the South Tunbridge Methodist Church. She held various positions and was a Past Worthy Matron of the Rising Sun Chapter # 12 of the Order of the Eastern Star. Shirley led many 4-H groups especially in cooking and sewing. For many years she supervised the Junior Division in Floral Hall at the Tunbridge World's Fair She is survived by four sons and daughters-in-law, David and Carley Howe of Tunbridge, Dale and Nancy Howe of White River Jct., Dean and Terry Howe of Northfield, Timothy Howe and Linda Birkenbach of Williston; a daughter and son-in-law, Karen Davies and Fred Krhut of Fairhope, Ala., 10 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, a sister, Udell Stoddard of Bethel and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Shirley is also survived by her many friends at the Menig Nursing Facility. She was predeceased by her husband, two brothers, Winston and John Ainsworth, and a sister, Ruth Colburn.
