SHANKS, ROBERT CARL, 77


SHANKS, ROBERT CARL, 77, of Idaho Falls, ID, died June 8 at Eastern Idaho Reg. Medical Center. He was born Feb. 2, 1932, in Windsor, to Carl Haines Shanks and Forrestine Elaine Northrup Shanks. He attended Bethel Elementary and graduated from Randolph High School. He served as an AE chief completing four tours in the Navy Air Force during the Korean and Vietnam Wars. He was a pilot, avionics instructor, electrician, mechanic, carpenter and industrial water engineer. He lived in Japan, Bermuda, California, and Idaho. After 24 years of service, he retired with a Purple Heart and four Bronze Stars. He married Kathleen Ann Monahan on Aug. 27, 1988. He was a member of the VFW, the American Legion and the Eagles. He loved his 1965 Ford Galaxy, working on cars, and his pets. Survivors include his wife, Kathy Shanks; three sons, Carl Shanks of Garden Grove, Calif., Robert F. Shanks of Milpitas, Calif., and Tim Shanks of Medill, Okla.; two daughters, Deborah Shanks of Forest Lake, Fla., and Donna Jacks of Georgia; stepdaughter, Laurie Ann Breton of San Jose, Calif.; stepson, Rob Clarque of San Jose, Calif.; sisters Elaine Hudson of Montpelier and Barbara Smith of Norwell, Mass.; brother Wendall Shanks of Montgomery Vill., Md.; and seven grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents.
