Barre Sweeps 9-10 Year Old District IV Title



The District IV All Star baseball tournament came to an end on Thursday, July 17 with an 8-5 victory by the Barre 1 team over Montpelier. Leading up to the championship game, Barre went undefeated against Clyde Whittemore 15-0, the Lyndon 10s 10-0, Central Valley 14-4 and St. Johnsbury 8-2. Said Barre coaches Mark Brier and Tom Renaud, “The boys played awesome the whole tournament. These boys sure are special and we couldn’t be more proud of them.”

 

In the championship game, Barre scored six of their eight runs in the second inning, five of them coming as both Justin Laperle and Hunter McLaughlin picked up two RBI with Jordan Stark adding another. Hunter McLaughlin pitched a solid four and two thirds innings. Montpelier came back and ended the top of the fifth trailing the game by one run. In the bottom of the fifth, Barre added two more runs when Zach Renaud scored off a sacrifice fly by Konnor Dexter and Aaron Brier got an RBI hit, scoring Jordan Stark who had hit a double, and advanced to 3rd on a Ben Beaudin hit. Jordan Stark took the mound again in the sixth after relieving McLaughlin in the fifth and picked up three straight outs to claim the championship victory for Barre.

 

 

With their win, Barre advanced to the State Tournament, with their first game in St. Johnsbury on Saturday, July 26th, against the District 2 champion.
