METCALF, STEPHEN, 62
METCALF, STEPHEN, 62, died June 11 at Gifford Medical Center in Randolph. Steve was born Dec. 17, 1946, in Brockport, N.Y., the son of Max and Helene Metcalf, and raised in South Onondaga, N.Y. Steve graduated from Onondaga Central High School in 1964, received his bachelor's degree from the University of Rochester in 1968, master's degree from Keene State College in 1975, and certificate of education from SUNY Brockport in 1983. Steve retired as captain after many years of service in the United Stated Navy and Naval Reserves, including active duty from 1968 to 1972. He served the community of Randolph as elementary principal from 1985 to 2006 and the Montpelier School District as superintendent from 2007 to 2009. Steve was a tireless advocate for children and loved his family deeply. Steve is survived by two sons, Alexander L. Metcalf of Centre Hall, Pa., and Benjamin C. Metcalf of Washington, D.C.; one daughter, Emily W. Metcalf of Bethel; one brother, Michael F. Metcalf of Oxford, Miss.; and one sister, Susan G. Metcalf of South Onondaga, N.Y.
