QUINLAN, THOMAS D., 48


QUINLAN, THOMAS D., 48, of Williamstown, died June 13 at his home. Born on Aug. 25, 1960, in Barre, he was the son of Robert Quinlan, Sr. and the late Jean Quinlan. He graduated from Spaulding High School in 1978. In September of 1978, he joined the Navy and served aboard the aircraft carrier USS John F. Kennedy as a photo journalist. He created the first naval ship hockey team, which would play against teams from other naval ships while in port in Norfolk, Va. In 1983-84 he attended Vermont Technical College. He created a company called Out of the Woods Signs and Marketing. His handcrafted signs are prominent in Montpelier and can also be found throughout Vermont, the U.S. and international locations. Survivors include his companion, Lila Denton of Williamstown; father, Robert Quinlan, Sr. of Barre; brothers, Robert Quinlan, Jr. of Clayton, N.C., and Richard Quinlan of Gloucester, Mass.; and sister, Karen Q. Canton of Graniteville.
