LEIGHTON, CHARLES E., 84


 LEIGHTON, CHARLES E., 84, died June 14 at Gifford Medical Center in Randolph. He was born May 1, 1925, in South Royalton, the son of Charles A. and Gladys (McCosco) Leighton. He graduated in 1943 from South Royalton High School. Following high school he joined the U.S. Navy serving for three years as an aviation machinist mate on board the U.S.S. Antietam Aircraft Carrier during World War II. On Jan. 4, 1958, he married Joyce Brady of Orford, N.H. She died Sept. 4, 2003. He sold and serviced Surge Milking Equipment for area farmers. He was a member of V.F.W. Post 2571 in White River Jct. and the Heartland Lions Club in South Royalton. He also enjoyed playing guitar with "The Corn Huskers," fishing, and raising cows. He served on the South Royalton School Board, Revolving Loan Committee, Planning Commission and as town constable. He is survived by a son, David C. Leighton and a daughter Kelly L. Carbino both of South Royalton, four grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
